San Diego Zoo Giant Panda Named!

Following Chinese tradition in waiting 100 days to name a Giant Panda, the latest edition to the Panda exhibit, a chubby little boy born on August 5th, 2009, is now known as Yun Zi.

Meaning ‘Sun of Cloud’ in Chinese, I believe that this refers to his fluffy looking black and white coat that appears to be somewhat cloud like.  Except that he’s a chubby cubby and probably couldn’t float!

Yun Zi is the fifth panda cub to be born to his mother, Bai Yun (meaning White Cloud), and only the 14th panda living in the United States.
